A special report : Solar Eclipse

I was enjoying my early break from the hospital rounds today, and was sitting as usual in front of my PC, when the surroundings happened to be dark and shadowy. It was ten to 1 pm. Out of curiosity, I got up, and observed the skies outside. I had the fact in my mind that the cumulonimbus clouds were approaching nearer, carrying rains along. I was a bit inquisitive when I saw Daus and Fadil were looking at the sky, holding a digicam in his hand. I was told then that they were enjoying this rare phenomenon, the solar eclipse. And this uncommon occurrence should be digitally treasured; hence I took my own digicam out of the drawer, ran outside and waited unwearyingly for like 10 mins to have a perfect view and sight.

For your information, an eclipse occurs at those times when the Moon moves into a position of direct alignment with the Sun and the Earth. And I've just witnessed a partial solar eclipse, not a total one. During a partial solar eclipse, only the penumbra touches our planet. The umbra passes either just above the North Pole or just below the South Pole, completely missing the Earth.

Thanks to Allah for the sun, the moon and the skies..

gonna sleep,

EDITED : Happy Birthday to Amin and Halfi

26th March - Amin aka Meaney
27th March - Halfi

This entry is dedicated to Amin and Halfi, who significantly play main roles in my years, as trustworthy, dependable and honest buddies. Happy 22nd and 18th birthday to Amen and halfi..

A birthday is a special time, an anniversary, a time for thinking of the past and how things used to be. On your birthday, I wish that all your dreams come true. I wish you fine and simple pleasures.I wish you many years of laughter.I wish you all of life’s best treasures.I wish you happily ever after! May your day be filled with joy.

Another year has come and gone, the sands of time keep trickling away.Your birthday reminds me to let you know that I'm thankful for you each and every day. Instead of counting candles, or tallying the years, contemplate your blessings as your birthday nears. Consider special people who love you, and who care and others who’ve enriched your life by just by being there.

Another year is a happy gift, so cut your cake, and say,"Instead of counting birthdays I count blessings every day!"

On your birthday I wish you much pleasure and joy and I always hope that all of your wishes come true.May each hour and minute be filled with delight, and your birthday be perfect for you!

Thanks for everything

Check the birthday clips out, and enjoy

Love and hugs,
hata@irbid

Petrificius totalus

Salam

For some unknown reasons, my blog has been petrified! Yeah, it seems that some warlocks and darklighters have casted a strong Petrificius Totalus spell, immobilizing the blog completely but luckily my anti-jinx spell ie the protego charms is strong enough to counteract the attack. After four days of blasting up spells and charms, the enemies were defeated yeay!! My blog has been restored and some minor reconstructions will follow the victory later this night.

Updates :

1) Grande Union of Bloggers United Links
2) Faiz's Favourite spell
3) Faiz's Favourite Chant
4) One new entry

Stay tuned..

Happy 18th Bufday Hazim

To : Dek Im
From : Hata
Subject : Happy birthday

Dear Hazim, my cute little bro

I wish you (in advance) a very happy 18th birthday so that I will be the first to wish you a joyous and happy bufday

I can simply portray hazim's nature through this acronym:

H - Honorable
A - Astonishing
Z - Zany
I - Intelligent
M - Modern

Dear hazim

Some treat birthday as a special occasion day. Others see a birthday as getting old with dismay. Again, happy birthday to you, celebrate you life anew. Know yourself and the lot you drew, enjoy such joy with your crew.

Wisdom of years cant be given away, bought or sold, there's moral and reason why we seem to grow old.

And lastly,

Thanks for being a nice pal all this while
Thanks for the beautiful friendship all these days

Happy birthday to you.

Brotherly yours,
Hata@irbid

24-hour view: A Medical Student's Life
(formerly known as diari bergambar)
Tagged by : Khalikok Endang

No buzzing alarm sound woke me up this morning but the conscious part of my mind told me to get up as early as 3.00 am. My esophagus was somehow dehydrated; hence I gulped 3 glasses of water so as to rewet it. Clicked my YM on and chatted with Syafiq, Wan and Sharina. One hour gone. Sitting before my heater, I had the dermatology text book opened facing me and I started studying. Well, exam is on Thursday FYI.

Got on irbid-JUST bus at 8.20 am, arrived 30 min later. Got into the hospital and joined Bothina and her other two other friends (we were kalbating on Agab when he suddenly appeared out of nowhere and I ran away, fearing that he heard it all ha-ha). Entered the blue hall at 9.20am. Couples of students were already in attendance, the doc was there too. He started the seminar on by asking us to describe the skin lesion seen on the first slide show and then when he shouted next, there was a momentary pause. The ice of silence persisted for 7 seconds and it seemed that nobody was in control of the keyboard. I let out a small chuckle, unfortunately noticed by the doc and was asked to be in charged of the keyboard. Sigh~~. >There were approximately 50 slides featuring 50 different skin lesions and I couldnt distinguish them well. Another long sigh~~

But then Yeay! 10-min break after the uninterrupted talk on the skin lesions. Sipped a cup of white Nescafe (motif white?), lepak-ed freely with Jordanian members and got back into the seminar room. Next -a seminar on Erythemas and Vasculitis. I enjoyed listening to the methodical explanation on several subtopics and the subtopics mentioned include Erythema Multiforme, Erythema Nodosum, Urticaria et cetera. Not bad.

Class ended at 1215. I rushed to the students cafeteria (outside the hospital). Met a bunch of juniors (acap, berry, dek im, etc). I had some sort of veggies mixed with slices of beef in a vinegary red-colored broth + 2 plates of plain rice + 1 glass of orange juice as lunch. Afterward, boarded the in-campus bus, took another JUST-irbid bus and flew home. It was 2.15 pm. Bought 1.5kg of chicken, a number of potatoes, chillies and onions. Ayam masak lemak cili api will be served as dinner today, hopefully.

Turned my PC on, chatted with some good friends of mine, and browsed thru my favorite pages. It was regrettable that I couldnt put down any comments in the blogs, I ran out of time. Wali called, and asked me to get into the maple arena. He had some kind of unfinished business, and he needed my help. Went strolling along Perion (an ancient city of the red-Indians) and logged out at 430 pm.

Started cooking after elmaghrib and had it done right before esya. Ive just performed my esya prayer and Im gonna have a long peaceful sleep. I prefer studying right before the sun rises up as I love the sense of tranquility and serenity during this very moment. But still, it applies when the exam is just around the corner. Anyway, the night is still young and full of promises, isnt it?

Post script :
Ive chosen to write on the medical life of mine on this day because:

  • No clinical rounds somehow

  • We got an extremely early excuse today.

  • Got some juniors as a company during the way back to irbid

:: The School meme::

Tagged by Dayangku Yasmin

How many schools did I go to?

As far as I'm concerned, I set my foot in the kindergarten when I was 4. It's hitherto called TABIKA (Taman Bimbingan Kanak-kanak). I enjoyed every single minute being a kindergartener. Too much play and no work made me a strong little boy.

Entered S K Seliau when I was 7. A small kampong school (approx 100 students) but it provided me a healthy environment to live in. No hazardous chemical substances from the cars etc will ever penetrate my alveoli. Thus, I became a lively and healthy boy. I still clearly remembered this particular time when the merentas desa event was on. We had to get across the small streams etc.I love these precious days back in my primary.

When I was ten, I was persuaded to enter the sekolah agama, from 3pm to 6pm, situated in Taman Marida Senawang. Although I didnt enjoy my studies in the school, it offered endless lists of religious academic curriculum.

Got an offer from Kolej Sultan Abdul Halim or Hamid (tak ingat) after finishing my elementary school. No, too far from my home. Furthermore my application to SMKA Sheikh Haji Mohd Said (SMKA SHAMS) Seremban was a success. Here, I met a lot of buddies. I grasped the concept of true friendship during my stay in SMKA SHAMS. I was destined to meet up Khalikok (well, he ignored me the first time we met, I had to formulate the move here) I could call him the whiz kid back in school because of his extraordinary achievements in the academic field. Nadbinti was my junior, and she became outstandingly popular after grabbing the best student title in PMR. Wouldnt it be nice if I had the opportunity to be one of acap's classmates back in SHAMS haha? Too bad.

Went to KISAS (Kolej Islam Sultan Alam Shah) after PMR, stayed for a little while but then returned to SHAMS. After all, I missed my friends and teachers.

Was I the studious nerd, or the last minute hero?

Both dont suit me well. Depends on my fluctuating mood. In-class competition boosted my spirit up to elegantly surpass others (khalikok n che per) but it was a simple hukum alam, life is like a rotary circle. One has to experience both ups and downs of life.

Was I the class 'taiko' or the teacher's pet?

Owh erm, the teachers pet, I think. But it didnt apply to all teachers, of course.

Similarly ngan dayang, I did participate in various competitions haha. Kuiz KH, Kuiz Agama, Kuiz Sejarah, Expo Sains, MTAQ, Kuiz Sains Asasi etc. Hahaha. I met Torique and Ihab during the Kuiz Sains Asasi held in SMAPK but unfortunately, they didnt acknowledge us (since we were from an ordinary school).

But I was one of the taikos along with Khalikok and Che Per when it comes to Pendidikan Jasmani and Kesihatan. Khalikok for instance never turned up for the bola sepak. I was a bit disappointed with him, honestly.

What was the biggest rule I broke in school?

Primary school:

Skipped English class, went out hiding in the library

Secondary school:

Missed out usrah and badan beruniform for infinite counts.

I didnt attend a seminar on Aedes once, and got myself a gift from The Principal, ROTAN haha. Khalikok experienced this as well haha padan ok. Nad was not present, but she was so brilliant in making up stories and the Principal believed her! Unbelievable.

Didnt copy down the notes given by Mr Yau during the Chemistry class. Haha. He sarcastically scolded me once. Haha

But I was a KP myself, I had to stick to the rules and regulations. Nevertheless, a group of KPs encircled me once, and asked me to stop being sangat sosial dengan budak perempuan Haha. I was dumbfounded at that time. What was wrong by the way? Hatred crammed up in my heart and mind, waiting for the very right time to spill out those fiery loathing feelings. They couldnt do anything like sacking me off the KP board; I was elected by the school teachers btw. hahaha. Khalikok was flirtier than me but I was the one to be held responsible haha. BTW beautifully said by toric : "lagi satu, mmg salah ok rapat2 sgt dgn pompuan time sek agama dulu!! hahahaha.".. and I got terjelepok on the sejadah of mine, terkedu and insaf

Three subjects I enjoyed

Biology : Thats why I chose to be a doctor. Any objections? Isnt the physiological mechanism in the body incredible and miraculous?

Bahasa Melayu : I love cikgu Azizah. Haha. Prized essays and prosa klasik very much.!! Hohoyeah bahasa is jiwa bangsa !! BTW I always liked the debat bahasa melayu competition. Unlike nad, I wasnt one of the school debaters. Takde bakat. I enjoyed watching nads debating skill during one of her competitions in TKC. Love pantun oso.

Chemistry : The easiest among the science subjects, yet I got an A2 during the SPM. That was why Im stranded here in Jordan, I think. Hehe.

Three teachers that inspired me

Cikgu Rahim : Lives in Taman Guru, hes my tutor in physics. Hes now in KUIM teaching physics. He has some sort of enchantments that attract every student to be attentive in his classes. Constantly pouring out jokes, Khalikok and I enjoyed staying up late at his house - chatting and gossiping.

Cikgu Salizah : My tuition teacher. Excited and enthusiastic every time she talks and teaches. Shes undeniably a superb teacher.

Cikgu Zainoriah : Being my homeroom teacher, shes strict and stern but behind the strict character, lies gentle and motherly qualities in her heart. I love her tho she scolded me (banyak kali) for not being able to finish up the addmath homeworks. I hate numbers and calculations!

Conclusion

I treasured every single minute as a student back in my primary and secondary..

If only time machines do exist...

~~Yawning~~

Salam and hello

A tiring day it was, I can say that. Stirred up from the sleep as the sun rose up The clinical round was NOT ok. Headed off to the seminar room in KAUH for dermatology seminar. The doc talked on Psoriasis and Eczema. Well, after a weekin this dermatology clinical session, I am not meant to be a dermatologist. I couldnt even differentiate those skin lesions. Theoretically speaking, yeah, its uncomplicated to understand the terms. Macule for example is a change in the skin color or texture (less than 0.5 cm in size). When it comes to the real picture i.e lesions on patients skins, I cant really tell whether the lesion is a psoriatic one or just a fungal-infected lesion. Another major downside of dermatology is that some of those lesions are transmittable and contagious, Molluscum Contagiosum for an example. Gloves anyone?

Off to the medical square during lunch time to cast vote. Jam-packed with voters, electorates and supporters. Kinda loved it when it comes to voting. Yeah, u might have the opening to get hold of free stuff hehe eg pens, chocolates (naming a few). I realized tat something was not right when I was just about to vote. OMG, I left my student card back at home. No luck! Id lost the opportunity to get bouquets of flowers, given to every voter. Several other supporters kept grinding by my side, asking for supports. Haha, it was fun.

Class dismissed. Boarded Irbid-Amman bus, headed straight to Eiffel Travel Agency to reserve 11 round-trip tickets to Malaysia forsummer holiday. Hehehe. (am at this moment smiling ear to ear). Took a cab to mecca mall, all alone by myself. Movie watching! Pink Panther was at the top of my list ( nadbinti suggested this one) but the show wasnt on till night. Got myself a seat in a Japanese Restaurant in the food court. Ordered one bowl of Japanese-style chicken noodle and two glasses of Pepsi plus a muffin as dessert. My stomach distended but not ballooned up enough to be considered as having ascites. Wandering alone in the mall reminded me that I do miss Malaysia pretty much. ~~. OK guys, off to bed ~~.

p/s: The gift parcel (sent) to a very good fren of mine was delivered safely today. Yeay!

Finally..

Salam and greetings to thee..

Well, the last few days without my PC seemed like forever. I couldnt netsurf. I couldnt turn the volume up to listen to my precious mp3 compilations. I couldnt have fun in the maple game battleground and more importantly, I lost contact with dear net friends out there he he. It was unforeseen really. I was browsing thru the virtual world of mine when the PC went like mad. It kept restarting over and over again. Nadbinti told me that sasser virus might be responsible and she sent an email (how to eliminate the virus). Thanks BTW. I figured out later that I couldnt turn my computer on as well. Went to the computer center. Investigation was done i.e. testing the integrity of my pcs motherboard and power supply (differential diagnosis) and lastly, it was diagnosed to have power supply malfunction. The management was simple.Yeah,I bought a new one.

Moving to a new storyline, Syapi ordered 7 pans of stuffed-crust pizzas from the Pizza-Hut nearby (a ten-minute walk) last night. Enjoyed eating without noticing the different type of pizzas we were having. There were chicken and beef plus salami etc Didnt really know BTW. He invited some guys to come along for the lovely supper. Enjoyed chatting, talking, kalbating and gossiping all night long.

FYI, Ive started on a new rotational cycle i.e. dermatology. Bought the text book already. The subject itself is fairly nice but there is too much info to be read. Weve covered 5 main topics so far (3 days of lectures). Here, we begin our rounds as early as 8 am. Scheduled to be having rounds in 3 different hospitals in this coming 2 weeks. Lectures will be carried out after lunch. Two things that summon my spirit up throughout this rotation include:

1stly - Members of my subgroup. As encouraging as ever.
2ndly - Nice doctors and consultants. They induce a strong magnetic force by showing benign and gentle demeanor towards the students. This kind of magnetic field will attract the negatively charged students to be present at the rounds and lectures.

This is merely a hypothesis of mine btw.

Caught a glimpse of Dar in the hospital. Was in hurry, couldnt say hi..

Criterias for becoming a Malaysian Govt Doctor.(part two)

8. Constant supply of coffee

9. Nicotine Patch as u will have the urge to start smoking due to overwhelming stress

10. Interest in watching medical sitcoms such as House MD, Scrubs, ER, Grays Anatomy and Chicago Hope to inspire u to continue your life as a doctor as the exciting things u see on TV does not resemble the real life of a Malaysian govt doctor.

11. Not to have any pets or plants (not even cactuses) as u will have no time to feed or care for them and eventually all will end up in your mortuary.

12. Able to endure the stench of your own sweat as to when 36 hours "on call" does not permit u time to bathe or freshen up.

13. Able to carry on working without food or water over 15 hours. ( I was in OT for 16 hrs without food, water or bathroom breaks). If during fasting month, able to break your fast with water for injection as u had no time to buy food.

14. Able to come to work with fever/cough/illness or physical disability (sprained ankle etc) as to which doctors do not deserve MCs. (My MO was on crutches during rounds)

15. Able to stand scolding, destructive criticism, kiss ass behaviors, racial bias, finger pointing, scape goating, and in competency from your superiors.

16. Able to withstand the jealousy when your friends call u up for some fun and ur stuck in the hospital during on call. The list goes on. These requirements should be sent out to all doctor wannabes and for them to determine if their life coincides with the Malaysian Medical Health service of doctors under KKM.

hata says : no comment :) hehe.. all the points mentioned above are related to housemen, in my humble opinion. Consultants n specialists earn very high incomes by walking around the wards, shouting to the MOs and HOs.

Criterias for becoming a Malaysian Govt Doctor (part one)

1. No life outside medicine; this includes dating, sports, clubbing, chores for your parents and visiting the toilet

2. Not to live with your parents. Move out ASAP as they will never understand the ludicrous working hours that u go through. Furthermore, chores are not suitable for u as to rule No. 1.

3. Not to be married until completion of all 4 years of Govt Compulsory service as u will be transferred left and right to some of the most remote Govt clinics in Malaysia. Having wife and kids to follow you to your new working area may increase high level of stress on all parties. Furthermore, if your spouse is a Govt Doctor, he/she will also be transferred away from u and no matter what appeal is made, KKM will put up a deaf ear (unless u have big cables or of a certain skin color).

4. If married, no to have children until u finish all 4 years of Govt Compulsory service, as to which u and your spouse will not have much time for your child/children or they end up not recognizing u and refer the Indonesian maid as their mother (change in language patterns commonly follow).

5. To obtain life insurance once your govt service begins as there is not many claims for accidents during work. Don't be fooled, Doctoring in Malaysia is hazardous.

6. Able to withstand 36 hours of non stop work and stress without mistakenly labeling Left for Right or uvula for vulva (or Volvo S40)

7. To buy a car with complete safety features (like I'm doing) which includes multiple airbags, ABS, EBD, side-front-rear-top-parallel and diagonal impact bars and seat belts to ensure survivability if u are involved in an accident because your driving resembled a drunkard maniac after working in the hospital for 40 hrs non stop.

p/s: There's no need for an aptitude test

hata says : yeah all the points mentioned above are sooo true. My sis is now an M.O but looking back at the past, i couldnt bear seeing her like that. Really, that is the truth. To much work and no play make doctors dull guys. Yet, the very key to be a good doctor is neither fame nor money but sincerity. Put you heart in the right place and come what may, you'll survive.

-to be continued-

as sincere as a good doc,

F.R.I.E.N.D.S

When I was a child, I used to watch a lot of cartoon series. One of them was Casper, the adorable little translucent spirit who floated all around the globe to befriend with all beings but regrettably everyone was afraid of him. He once said afriend in need is a friend indeed. That was moving even though I didnt entirely understand it. At that time, I was still a youngster, naïve and innocent.

I live my life like everybody else does. Ive seen loads of people out there. I still remember the first day I stepped into my kindergarten class. I still bear in my mind the first day I attended my primary and secondary schools. Unforgettable. Yet, Im still searching the real meaning of friendship.

A real friend is reluctant never to be by your side. I have always known that friendship is sharing the good and the bad times, sharing laughs and tears. Real friends are not afraid to tell you that you are doing something wrong but will not judge you for doing it. They accept you for who you are and not for what you have or haven't done. These friends are rare and precious.

BTW got up at 9 this morning. Went out shopping in one of the most famous place for Gifts and Presents called Shu helw. Well, I bought some presents for a very good friend of mine. He/she celebrated his/her birthday not very long time ago. He/She kept insisting on having a gift or two from me, in which I reluctantly agreed. (main2 je, ikhlas ni ok sila sedar). I know not if he/she reads my blog regularly. Went to FedEx office, surprised by the price ( >30 JOD ). Rushed into the post office, yeah, at last, a very nice price for a not-so-nice present. Haha..

BTW if YOU are reading this, I hope you enjoy the small gifts from me. Wrapped up in a nice box with pink ribbons tied to it, what else I can say? Thats all what I do have here. Its not the price that matters. Its the thought that counts. This is one of my tokens of appreciations. Thanks for your constant supports. Thanks for the beautiful and memorable friendship all these days.

Delivering my token of appreciation,
