That's what Faiz thinks of his recently reinstated blog. At the age of 23, he believes that writing is the most efficient way to express the feelings crammed inside one's heart. After the fall of his blog dominion recently, he stoutly gets up on his feet, casting a powerful spell onto his blog and here it is, a charmed blog, reincarnated from the past, brought to the present and forever lasts in the future.
Being a final year medical student himself, he can never deny the frenzied life he's currently living on but life goes on and that's it. Apart from his hectic life, he always finds the time to go on with his hobbies, netsurfing and chatting being the most prominent ones. My First Day in Ophthalmology Cycle (ukraine guna cycle cam nak berbasikal ok!)
Got up surprisingly early. I took a long hot bath. I put on an emerald-colored outfit with a matching neck-tie and sprayed myself puffs of non-branded perfume. Satisfied, I went out of the apartment of mine, heading to King Abdullah University Hospital (KAUH) with blossoming enthusiasm. After all, it was my first day in the new rotation, Ophthalmology!
We had a lecture as early as 8 am, I hadnt had any chance to glance thru the new materials last night (YMing with some good friends of mine). It was all about Refractive Errors. Simple and uncomplicated as well. You mustve heard about the myopia, astigmatism, lazy eyes, concave and convex lenses, diopter, etc. It was OK although I dozed off in the class for several times. Hahah.
We are a group of 16 students, divided into 4 other small groups. Every group has to follow the given schedule. Oh no, we had to go into the Operation Theater. Gimme a break. It was our first day. Knowing nothing about the eyes anatomically and pathophysiologically will do us no good at all. Yet, we got into the changing room at 9.45am (really, its called a changing room) and put up the blue medical scrubs, the mask, the cap (what do they call this?). Well, wearing medical scrubs gives us a sense of professionalism and meaning! hohoyeah (jeling lagi kakmin)
The operating spot was so big and I nearly got myself lost! Therere bunch of doctors and medical staffs and I couldnt help smiling "am I john dorian?" harhar. So we went into an operation room. 2 surgeons were already prepared. This patient had squinted eyes (juling ok bukan mengecikkan mata) in which the eyes were deviated medially. What did they do? Well, therere several means in reestablishing the normal eye looks. We can either strengthen the lateral rectus or weaken the medial rectus (basic anatomy), and they chose this option and it progressed well. A simple surgery it was. It took nearly half an hour to shift the medical rectus posteriorly by a process called recession ( haha tak ingat ok).The doc kept asking us a lot of questions. This was almost unbearable!
Next, another case of squints. Boring. Next, cataract, it grabbed my attention to be in a full-alert state. They made an opening passing thru the anterior capsule, removed the lens, and put on an artificial one.
It was 2. Yeay! Since it was our first day in the cycle (main beskal), we were given an early break. Had lunch in the café, went home and took a long nap. Woke up later that evening to find a vertigo-like sensation overpowering me. Sigh~~
